"Sox in the Bronx" - Round 6!

Sox in the Bronx: Round 5 Friday, August 7th, marks our return date to New York, for our first visit to the New Yankee Stadium. Bill and the crew are heading back to the Evil Empire for "Round 6" of our "Sox in the Bronx" rivalry tour. Sixteen buses in the last four years has made this our most popular trip for the Maine division of Red Sox Nation!

Our first trip consisted of four buses full of excited Red Sox fans, most of who had never stepped inside historic Yankee Stadium. The Sox dropped the first game to the Yankees on Friday night, with a score of six to three, but our dedicated Sox fans were rewarded on Saturday with a seventeen to one blasting of the blue pin stripes. It was the worst home beating of the Yankees, by the Red Sox, in this historic rivalry. We celebrated that evening in the Big Apple to top off a great sports weekend. The Red Sox closed out the series on Sunday, as we headed home, with a seven to two victory.
ROUND ONE...RED SOX!!!!

With a second weekend series scheduled on September 9th, of 2005, we tossed it out there and Red Sox Nation responded with two more buses heading to the Evil Empire. Friday night offered the same results with the Yankees winning eight to four. The Sox rebounded on Saturday with a nine to two victory, followed by more celebrating that evening in the city that never sleeps. The Yankees countered with a one to nothing shutout in the rubber game on Sunday. A great time was had by all again and we knew this trip would become a yearly favorite.
ROUND TWO...YANKEES!!!!

The MLB 2006 schedule limited us to just one weekend series in New York on September 15th. We jumped on it early and tallied five buses, including our very first Family Bus, filled with kids of all ages heading to New York to see their beloved Red Sox take on the Yankees in the house that Babe built. Although the Red Sox won three out of four games this series, it was a bitter sweet feeling with a rain out on Friday night and the injury plagued Red Sox way too far behind in points to gain any ground on the division title.
A GOOD FIGHT BUT...ROUND THREE...YANKEES!!!!

In 2007, the baseball gods again limited us to just one weekend series in the Evil Empire. It was an early season knockout in April, with the Red Sox sweeping the baffled Yanks in this three game series and cruised to the division title and World Series Championship, without ever looking back on this once great foe.
ROUND FOUR...RED SOX!!!!

You want baseball drama? Check out 2008!

The Red Sox cruised through the first two games of the series, winning 7-0 on Thursday, and 6-4 on Friday, July 4th. We attended the pivotal Saturday afternoon game, after recovering from our Independance Day celebration the night before in the Big Apple.  The great firework display that night didn't even come close to what we were about to experience at the ballpark.

Rookie Justin Masterson, gave up just two runs over six innings in his Yankee Stadium debut.  Talk about pressure!  Mussina and the middle relief did their part, pitching eight shutout innings against the Red Sox. Then came the top of the ninth and Mariano Rivera!  Down 2-0, J. D. Drew led off with a single. Manny Ramirez was then hit for the third time of the game. In all, there were seven hit batsmen in the game, tying an all time record. Fireworks?  Oh Ya!  A single to right by Lowell sliced the deficit to one and the noisy Evil Empire became even louder as the out numbered Red Sox fans drowned out the fans of the blue stripes, anticipating another classic Riveria melt down. Kevin Youkilis was also hit by a pitch, loading the bases with nobody out. Rivera then got down to business, striking out Coco Crisp on three pitches. Next was our beloved Captain Varitek popping out to first. Finally, our anticipated hero, Julio Lugo, couldn't get the job done, striking out to cap off one the the best games that we had witnessed in this classic rivalry.

The Yankees edged the Sox again on Sunday to even the series,as we headed home with our baseball appetite satisfied again from another great road trip.
ROUND FIVE...EVEN - A DRAW!
